Ketoconazole is a broad-spectrum imidazole antifungal that inhibits ergosterol synthesis, disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity. It is effective against dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton), yeasts (Candida, Malassezia), and other fungi. This medicated soap is indicated for tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor), and seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff). It relieves itching, scaling, and irritation while preventing recurrence.
Ketoconazole belongs to the imidazole class of antifungals. It inhibits the fungal enzyme
lanosterol 14α-demethylase (cytochrome P450 14DM), blocking the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol,
an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This leads to increased membrane permeability,
leakage of cellular contents, and ultimately fungal cell death.
The 2% w/w concentration is optimal for treating superficial fungal infections. The soap formulation
allows for easy application over large body areas and is particularly effective for seborrheic dermatitis
(dandruff) when used on the scalp and face (avoiding eyes). Clinical improvement is usually seen within
1–2 weeks, with complete resolution in 4–6 weeks for tinea infections.
Spectrum of activity: Dermatophytes (Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes,
Microsporum canis, Epidermophyton floccosum), Yeasts (Candida albicans, Malassezia furfur),
and other fungi.

For seborrheic dermatitis/dandruff, use on the scalp and face (avoid eyes) 2–3 times weekly for 2–4 weeks, then once weekly for maintenance. For athlete's foot, apply between toes and leave for 5 minutes before rinsing. Continue using for at least 1 week after symptoms clear to prevent recurrence.
